Express Newark kicks off Legacy, our 2026–2027 season, in partnership with Newark Arts—eleven exhibition openings, open studios, a live conversation, and music all night.
About Us
Supported by Rutgers University—Newark, Express Newark is Empowering Expression Through the Arts, by actively honoring its city’s legacy of art and activism by supporting artists of all ages in Newark and beyond. We actively cultivate a dynamic, open, and welcoming space for artists, students, and the community through our programming, classes, residencies, and exhibitions.
Annual themed gallery exhibitions bridge leading international contemporary artists with locally-based artists.
Performances and lecture series related to Express Newark’s annual theme are free and accessible to the public, with programming catering to adults and teens in the Newark community.
Free courses and workshops are open to all Newark residents, ranging from K-12 programming to classes for adults and seniors.
Express Newark is home to nearly ten non-profit organizations and publicly-accessible studios. Each studio shares a common goal of using art or activism to enrich the city of Newark.
We offer a range of year-long to short-term artist and curatorial residencies that center Newark social engagement initiatives.
Express Newark hosts professors, scholars, and creative practitioners who teach on a wide range of skills and topics.
